Knitwear Manufacturing for UAE Activewear and Modest Sportswear
Modest sportswear is a set of pattern decisions before it is anything else. A sleeve that reaches the wrist, a body that covers the hip, a neckline sitting higher than a standard athletic block: each of those changes the pattern, the marker and the way the garment moves, and each is simpler to build in at the start than to add to a finished block.
Below is how those changes are handled, which fabric weights suit a Gulf climate, what sampling and inspection look like, how cartons reach Dubai, and what the Arabic labels will say.
Modest activewear, built into the block
Long sleeves, a relaxed line through the body, a higher neckline and a longer hem are pattern changes we build into the block rather than trims attached at the end. On a yoga set that means the armhole and the sleeve head are redrawn together, the body is lengthened at the hem with the side seam rebalanced, and the neckline is raised with the shoulder line adjusted so it keeps sitting flat.
Coverage alters fit in ways a drawing will not show. A longer body pulls across the hip when the wearer sits; a raised neckline tightens the pull across the chest. Both are settled at block stage, and the fit sample is cut in the final fabric rather than a stand-in, so the drape can be judged as it will actually behave.
At 100 pieces per style per colour, a set is counted piece by piece: a top, a legging and a light layer are three styles, each carrying its own run. Sizes are spread across that run in whatever curve the market buys.
Fabric weight for a hot climate
The light end of our range does most of the work here, and the choice usually comes down to four bands:
- 140–180 GSM for light jersey tops, mesh panels and summer layers.
- 180–220 GSM for standard jersey, leggings and tees that must hold their shape.
- 220–260 GSM for piqué polos and structured tops.
- 260–300 GSM for interlock and heavier knits.
Light fabric carries a trade-off worth naming. At the lower end it shows more of the body underneath and recovers more slowly after stretch, so a legging meant to hold is safer at 180–220 even in a hot market, while a top meant to feel cool holds its silhouette through a wash cycle at 140–180 with a higher polyester share in the blend.
Where the weight you have named will not carry the silhouette you have drawn, we say so before the sample is cut. That conversation is cheaper at the sampling stage than at the inspection table.
Sampling and the road to bulk
A technical pack in PDF or Excel, artwork in AI, EPS or high-resolution PDF, and a size chart are enough to begin. EU and US grading are both used by buyers in the region, and the chart you send decides which is applied to the block.
The first sample takes 3–7 days, with a wash test carried out inside that stage rather than booked as a later step. Bulk runs 15–25 days from approval of the pre-production sample, not from the day the order is placed.
Nothing is packed until it has passed 100% inspection, run in-line and again at the end, with the final audit working to an AQL 2.5 acceptance level against the measurements in the approved spec. Bonded and seam-sealed pieces start at two hundred per style and colour: the seamless polo page describes that construction, and our answer on certified fabrics covers the documentation behind recycled qualities.
DDP into Dubai, and the terms behind it
DDP is the term most UAE orders are quoted on, with duty and delivery inside the price and the carton arriving already cleared. EXW and FOB Shenzhen Yantian remain available where a buyer has its own freight arrangement and prefers to control the move.
The sea leg runs from Yantian into Jebel Ali, and the forwarder on the booking handles the port-to-door section. Every UAE order is invoiced on the same basis: the advance arrives by T/T before fabric is cut, and the closing sum is cleared while the cartons are still in our warehouse, ahead of the handover. A container load may instead be settled on an L/C at sight.
Quotes show fabric, trims and making-up as separate lines, so a change to one can be priced without reopening the rest of the costing.
Arabic labels, and a right-to-left storefront
Care and content labels are set in Arabic from the artwork you supply, including the size designation, fibre content and care symbols, and the copy is proofed against that file before the label order is placed. Arabic runs right to left, so the label layout is built in the direction the text travels rather than mirrored afterwards.
This site also runs in Arabic with a right-to-left layout, so a colleague can read the same specification pages without a translation in the middle. Artwork for labels needs to arrive as vector or high-resolution PDF, in line with any other print file.
Questions UAE buyers ask before sampling
Can you produce a modest set with long sleeves and a longer body?
Yes. Sleeve length, body length and neckline height are pattern changes we build into the block, and the fit sample is cut in the final fabric so the drape can be judged. A set is counted by its pieces, with each style carrying its own hundred per colour.
Which fabric weight should we start with for Gulf heat?
Start at 140–180 GSM for tops and mesh panels, and 180–220 for leggings and tees that need to hold their shape. Piqué polos sit at 220–260. A lighter cloth shows through more and recovers more slowly, so the weight follows the garment rather than the climate alone.
Is DDP available into Dubai?
Yes, and it is the term most UAE orders are quoted on, with duty and delivery inside the price. EXW and FOB Shenzhen Yantian are also offered. On payment the pattern is fixed: an advance by T/T, the closing payment cleared before the cartons leave our warehouse, and an L/C at sight when a container load is booked.
How does a two-piece set count against the minimum?
Per piece. A top and a legging are two styles, so the order is two hundred pieces in total at one colourway each, and the sizes can be spread across those runs as you need them.

Send the sketch or tech pack, the coverage changes you have in mind and the fabric weight you are considering, and we will return a marked-up spec with a sampling date. Contact SLSPOLO to begin. For the fabric and weight ranges behind a polo or a yoga line, see the yoga wear manufacturing page; for a market that grades to EU charts, the Germany page covers that block, and UK brands covers labelling for an English-language market.
